If some games need larger saves than 4KB (by the way, bear in mind there's usually no reason to have more than one of these on there at a time) then what they should be doing is using Connect 24 - your Wiimote could certainly hold your console identifier, so you just take it around somebody else's house and when you get there it'll download data from your system; could be several megabytes if needed.

Same thing should let you automatically swap friend codes if you bring your Wiimote to a friend's house, so you can play later on the internet without needing to type in the number.

(Incidentally, somebody mentioned that the space allowed for game saves/ Virtual Console games doesn't add up to 512MB. I wonder if that's because they may have reserved half the memory for Connect 24 use of various types.)

quen

I'll buy this game the instant they say we get to control our Pokemon beyond RPG style commands.

Heck, I'll probably buy it anyway. Pokemon are cute and I need more games I can kick my cousins' butts in.

iwanttobeasleep

As childish as pokemon is (ok they got me during the whole red/blue thing but...) I like the sound of the interactions that this game will give you. So with this then your wiimote really becomes your pokeball you bring to your friend's house and whoop him with (in the game)

Shnyzx

If I remember correctly it was 4kB. 4kB actually is a lot of memory (4 thousand characters)if the only thing you are going to save are simple text options, to be interpreted by the console. Imagine translating a Pokemon name and stats: (everything after ## is just explanation, don't count that)

Wilson ##name
12 ## Level
4837 ## witch powers yes, can be done but it would be long to explain)
250 ## health
1 ## gender

Then you can compress pure text too, witch gives a huge compression rate

But, with memory with such low cost, They should have aimed for 8-16mB, so the saves could be a bit more complex (and who knows how many games are going to use that feature)

Bunn

Seems like there is a good deal of potential to re-energize the pokemon brand, which I kinda see as being dull and repetative. I played it back when it was lowly Pokemon Red and Blue, but after that it kinda lost its magic. I wonder if they won't come up with something really awesome to make usage of the wii controller. Probably not, but one can hope, eh?

journeyman

TheJordanator is correct. The Wiimote has a mere 6KB onboard memory. However, that's advertised. If my calculations are correct from some previous thinking one block of save data is 128KB (based on my SD card). Working with that number I found that the system itself only had about 270MB available for game saves as opposed to the full 512MB they originally said. What does any of this mean? They may say 6KB on the Wiimote, but there really may be more, or less. We can't know without having direct access to it to measure. I'm betting there's more since 6 is a strange number in computing. Usually you find things in powers of 2, like 2 4 8 16 32 etc.

Field Anony-mouse

"Well, players whose friend codes you know."

General friend code bashing aside, this isn't completely true. You will also be able to battle against random opponents whose skill level is close to your own.

Pale

That's pretty funky, really. Am I the only one that things they should toss in Mii support?

Like, I know the Mii channel look wouldn't suit the graphic style of the game, but they could scan the settings you've used for your Mii and do an automatic character creation thing using re-made parts so you have a decent quality character that resembles your Mii (which in turn resembles you). I dunno, maybe it's too complicated to be worth the pay out.
I reckon it'd be rad, though.

Demaar
