Another thing to keep in mind is that the 360 is only a "hot system" because it was released prior to this month. The PS3 and Wii have not even released enough units for initial demand yet, and that is with the PS3 having barely any titles. This game is still probably over a year away, and I would be surprised if the 360 has a dominent sales lead, if any, at that point.

kingofallcosmos

Remember, Kojima also said that the game will be much bigger than DVD9 (8GB). MGS3 already pushed its limit and it had to delete quite a few features just to fit in. People can say that it's easy to just put multiple DVDs, but if the game is completely non-linear (like Guild Wars, War of WarCraft), do you really think you wanna switch discs back and forth? Like if you need to return to stage 1 to pick something, then go to stage 6 again, then go back to stage 3. Not convenient, eh?

But then again, this is MGS. It might be linear. Too linear...

HobbaHobba

I've heard the rumor too. The higher-ups at Konami want to go to the hot system right now and make more moolah. Kojimi is completely against it and I can't say that I disagree with him. I miss the days of console exclusives and there aren't many anymore. While one part of me is glad that I won't have to buy all of the system's to experience good games, another part is sad.

Exclusves defined a system and Sony had some of the best. That seems to be changing rapidly. It's only a matter of time before the big name RPG's defect too. I've already heard that the next numbered Dragon Quest will be Wii only.

LORDofDANCE

While all the reasons you have listed are flimsy at best (save the 'more money' reaason, which you didn't enumerate), I would be more inclined to agree with you if you had said: "Kojima will put a title on the X360", as opposed to MGS4 specifically. I think Kojima's Japanese loyalty (and Sony's money) will keep MGS4 away from the X360 for at least a year after release, if not forever. It seems more likely for the X360 to get a second tier Kojima Studios title, like Zone of the Enders.

TryingNot2H8you

There are plenty of clues to indicate that Konami will ultimately put MGS4 on the 360.

First, would be the Q-Man tip in EGM.
Second, the 1up show interview with the American guy that works at Konami Japan.
Third, Kojima saying he misses Rumble.

Why argue that this won't happen? Are Sony fans really going to be that angry if the game moves elsewhere? If it gets on a different console, it makes more money and helps the development team make even better games.

Also, including Sixaxis control does not immediately mean that the game could not be moved to a different platform. Sixaxis control is just a different way to perform moves that you could emulate with the analog sticks. The games hints at Sixaxis control are in no way deep enough that they could not recreated in some other fashion.

logikil

"I can't think of anything the gamecube had that the Wii doesn't."
Well, there isnt anything the Xbox had that the 360 doesnt, so I guess not having HDD or HD-DVD player from the beginning arent really steps backward.

But if we go from what you said at first, then the Wii did make a step back by not making HDD standard either. Also it could be argued by non-Nintendo fans that the lack of graphic quality is a step back in the next-generation. MGS has always been an example of a ways to use rumble to vastly enhance the gameplay experience. As mentioned before, Psycho Mantis told you to put your controller on the floor so he could move it with his mind (rumble it so hard it moves a bit).

Another less obvious example is how every time you're seen, not only is there the loud characteristic ! noise, but there's also a sharp jolt of rumble to really catch you off guard.

Gloominati

I have to see if I really miss the rumble when they launch PS3 in EU. I switch it off for many PS2 titles, but for some it's really well implemented. And not too surprised to hear they have more areas than the Middle East in MGS4, Konami is master at keeping secrets that other companies leak daily.

"Now that I have a PS3 and have played it a lot, I didn't even notice it was missing. It took me a few hours to even think about it and then it was a fleeting feeling of missing something."

You miss it if it was there and then taken away. Gears Of War uses it to warn of emergence holes and other stuff, racing games give feedback about getting close to the limit and overall I would take it over some bodged-on motion sensing any day of the week. We've had it since last-last-gen so to take it away is just wrong.
That's nice, Hideo also misses the rumble, I hope after this, sony makes their mind to pay immersion, after all immersion said that there's a way to maintain the motion sensing with the rumble.

Oh, and it's a shame that Kojima didn't give any hint about working on a Zone of the Enders 3, that would be great!

Lider

Screw Assassin's Creed...the concept sounds terribly like the concept of the Hitman games (especially the second of the series, Silent Assassin), where donning disguises, carrying the right weapon for your disguise, walking calmly and keeping your cool can get you leagues farther in a level than straight-up run-and-gun action and/or visual and auditory stealth, which the the Hitman games still give you the choice to do, by the way.

darksteel1989

I can see Sony re-releasing the DualShock. I even blogged that they would and that MGS4 may be the game they re-release it for. Sony say they won't re-release the DualShock for the PS3, but they also said they weren't going to change that horrible bat-a-rang controller they 1st unveiled. Sony's word isn't worth much.

Random J

"I miss the rumble" as would I if I was daft enough to buy a PS3. If it's good enough for Hideo to say it, then the thousands of us who have also said it can now rest in peace, vindicated, and safe from the Sony Fanboy BS about it not being at all important.

Way to take a step backwards in your "next-gen" Sony.

Sharpfish

Hideo discription of how the game will play "But in this game, you're going into the bank at midday. You might just be a customer going in to make a deposit, but you still have to sneak in to accomplish your mission." sounds very much like how the last hitman played, no?

TwistedSupreme

More people with influence and stature, like Hideo need to push Sony.
They already lost their ass on the battery fiasco, so what's another 10-100 mil. to settle with Immersion, and bring back the rumble?
