"I think the key phrase here is :"and the remarkably robust manner in which they are implemented". Yes, I think Portal comes closest in terms of "innovation", but (now please don't flame me; hear me out first) Portal's innovation came primarily from an "idea", whereas Halo 3's "innovation" came from completely thorough polish unlike any game in the market today."
