Because the GTA Al Qaeda thread is dead now, I'll put my rebuttal here if you don't mind.
I actually do find that using games as an outlet is beneficial. I've been doing it for years, and in that time, I've been taken off my medication, (antidepressants/antipsychotics etc.), I've become more friendly, I've become more social, and I swore myself to pacifism.
Of course, I don't rely on gaming either. I have other methods of management. But sometimes all the writing and stress-ball squeezing in the world can't compare to having a virtual city to let loose in.
