The DS is sold out in Japan. How sold out? Like, Nintendo had to release a formal apology, because you couldn't find the dang thing at any major electronics/gaming outlets in Tokyo. Not only that, but the portable vanished off department store and toy shop shelves throughout the metropolitan area. Only a handful were located at the Pokemon Center in Tokyo and in Yokohama. The reason for this? A strong selection of titles and people buying New Years presents could've sparked this massive sell out for a product that's been available for over a year. Akiba Blog's got the lowdown and tons of pics, following up on a story we covered yesterday about the DS outselling the 360. Now, if only we could work out some sort of international exchange, whereby you give us Dual Screens, and we'll ship ya 360s, everybody'd be happy as clams.

Nintendo must be overjoyed at how well the DS is doing. Honestly, I love Nintendo, but even I didn't imagine that it would do _this_ well. I guess this could mean good things for the Revolution...
i dont get it...if their sold out then all those boxes of DS are empty?? So Nintendo sent their retailers boxes? Like the xbox 360? lolz

Now the folks in Japan are looking at our stocks of DSs with envy.
So could we safely put "The DS is just a gimick" beside "640k should be enough for anybody" in the history people eating their words
What I would like to know is exactly WHAT games are driving the DS sales. They can't seriously be selling out just for PictoChat ;)
There are a couple new brain games & Animal Crossing as well... Don't forget Mario Kart.

What games are driving this? Nintendogs alone is an addictive substance that should have a surgeon general's warning on it. Throw in Meteos and Electroplankton and you've got digital cocaine in your pocket. Sigh, I wish we had black DSes over here in the states.
