GameBrink has posted the box art and some new screens of the Japanese version of SimCity DS, which include the first look at the game's own anime tour guide, encephalitic Will Wright. His head is so huge! If the game ever gets released stateside there'd better be a bobble head preorder promotion.
As we've said before, the game is based off of the PC version of SimCity 3000, and includes new multiplayer functions to spice up the mix. While it was exciting enough to have the power to cultivate and then ultimately destroy a major metropolitan area in the palm of your hand, the prospect of having a tiny Will Wright in your pocket definitely seals the deal.
Sadly there is still no word on a US release of SimCity DS, but with the game set to release in Japan in late February you still have two months to bone up on your Nihongo. Catch the box art, after the jump!

Can't get any more to the point than that, can you?

Good god, a Mini Will Wright! I'm praying for a stateside release.
Also, if I cut back on funding, will I regret it?
It's SimCity. How can they NOT release it in the US?
Based off SC3000? Ick. I'd pass myself. I've only had passing experience with it. The absolutely horrible CPU load and abysmal water pipe placing systems were inexcuseable in my mind. So unless they really cleaned it up... Well you get the idea.
Now, THAT's what I'm talkin' about.
I must have this....
Well in English...
and US version, but I must nonetheless! I was holding off on Wii SimCity for this and cause i still have the cart.
they have to release this stateside. it's a no brainer, and I would probably pick up a DS Lite for this alone!
Awesome. Right now, I'm playing Simcity 2000 on my PDA phone just as much as my DS. Believe me, that's a huge accomplishment. Touchscreen works great for the game.
3000 was great until your city got so huge the game's fastest speed was just as slow as the slowest speed. Hopefully the DS doesn't face the same problem.
Agreed on SimCity 3000 being a horrible CPU hog - but the gameplay was definately there. If they've reengineered it from scratch but kept the gameplay then it should be pretty darn good.
I don't know why they had to pick the worst of all the SimCity games to base it off of...they should have just stuck with 2000.
@ Field Anony-mouse
They don't just plane the edges off a CD-ROM to make DS ports of PC games. They reprogramme them so they don't have the same problems as 8 year old games.
The SNES port of SimCity also had a Will Wright-based adviser character ("Mr. Wright"), who also made cameo in the Gameboy Zelda Link's Awakening. I don't think there could be any greater life achievement than actually having a character based on you being in a freakin' Zelda game.
Unless the character based off you happens to be Twinkle.
I dunno what it is, but I've found that I've played each iteration of the Sim City franchise less and less than its predecessor. I couldn't even tell you why.
Speaking of which, am I the only one that wants a new Sim Earth? >.>
I really hope this comes stateside. It would be great to have a Sim game on the DS. The touch screen should play perfectly into a game like this.
I'm also glad that they picked SimCity 3000 to build from. I liked the SimCity games where the focus was on a single city. The Sim "country" that was used in SimCity 4 was downright intimidating.
Yeah i'm wondering how this cant be released on in its home country. Thats like releasing a Dragon Quest game only in the US and not in Japan.
"Will Wright in Your Pocket"
That would suck so bad, it would feel like your nuts are getting a constant massage... actually, that might be pretty good.
In other news, SimCity3000 in your pocket sounds just fucking awesome, Field Anony-mouse and his name just sucks.
