Sweet Sweet Revolution Controller FPS Demo

Oh. My. Gawd. Kotakuite Jerry was surfing through Google Video and came across this mock-up video that shows how the controller will most likely be used with a first-person-shooter. Color me excited.

  • very nice. does anybody know how this was done? it seems as if the site this orinated from is euro: http://www.arena51.be/

  • use one of thier Mice http://www.gyration.com/ With Halflife 2? Real innovative there =p....

  • Here's the link to the guy who created the vid: http://www.rllmukforum.com/index.php?showtopic=104969

  • wow - that really looks phenomenal - they say this "revolution" will change the face of gaming... are "they" right? who knows... but im gettin one...

  • what do people think looks awesome about this? does it look confusing at all to anyone? no doubt it looks interesting. cant wait to get one.

  • The only strange thing about it is that it looked like he wasn't even using the Revolution controller to turn and point. He was flicking around the black thing in his right hand and moving stepping and switching weapons with the left, using the controller. I'm confused.

  • Nevermind. I just read the posted thread. None of it is on a Revolution.

  • we won't be play HL2 on our revs any time soon though. i'm gettin one!

  • What I would really like to see, when its possible - is an FPS deathmatch between the XB 360 controller, keyboard/mouse, and the Revolution controller. That would be very interesting to watch. Maybe then we could finally lay to rest all the arguments.

  • Keyboard mouse would win. There's not even any question about that...

  • I remember seeing this when it was first shown. The guy simply took a one-handed PS1 controller and a Gyration mouse to form a crude mock-up. The reason why he had to fling it back and forth so many times is because the mouse only tracks movement when a button is held down on it, so in essence it's no different than a regular mouse. But it's still a neat representation. By the way, for 15 or so media outlets that got a chance to demo the real Revolution controller, all of them were saying that it could rival or surpass the wasd/mouse setup. Some of that group included people who said the mouse and keyboard was superior to the console controller.

  • That is nothing like how a FPS will look on a rev, for one there is no fixed cursor in the initial revo FPS setup. It is like metroid DS with a totally independant camera, and an independant cursor/sight.

  • JP, just because Metroid had an independent targeting system doesn't mean that all revolution FPS's will. This is a design choice and has nothing to do with hardware.
