PlayStation Store Updates (No GTA IV Trailer Here)

Yesterday's Grand Theft Auto IV trailer sparked a ridiculous amount of internet debate, with fans combing over every frame attempting to glean every minute detail from the minute-long clip. The trailer brought web servers to their knees and eventually showed up on the Xbox Live Marketplace.

Sadly, no such trailer appeared on the PlayStation Store yesterday. Instead, PLAYSTATION 3 owners were given trailers for Warhawk, Super Rub A Dub and PlayStation Home. The demo for 2K Sports' Major League Baseball 2K7 also went up, alongside some Hollywood fodder. Not bad, but no GTA IV trailer.

I realize that the fledgling network may have actually caused the Sony data center to explode from the data transfer, but I can't help feel a bit jealous of my Xbox Live brethren. I'd have loved to easily watch the HD trailer on my HDTV via my PS3.

What, if anything, fellow PS3 owners, would you like to see more or less of on the PlayStation Store?

  • How about first seen the Playstation Store itself in our country...

  • Less movie trailers. More demos.
Every week its 3-4 movie trailers...and MAYBE IF YOUR GOOD...a demo.

  • Wait, the PS3 doesn't even let you stream videos from the PC to your HDTV? I've been doing that shit with Xbox 360 for months now. Sucks to be you, I guess.

  • I think that if they had posted the GTA IV trailer to the Playstation store, a good chunk of the continent could have been wiped out in the resulting server explosion and melt-down. And of course, it would take longer to download than it has taken them to make the game.

  • Dont worry too much.... whether it was my particular TV or brightness/contrast setup, the trailer didnt look all that spectacular in HD on my 720p LCD.

No where near as crisp as a lot of other trailers you see on Mktplce.

  • @wheezo: 3 users can do that? (I kid).

  • Can't you use the web browser to see the trailer?

  • demos with sixaxis support. A more robust interface similar to the internet browser.

  • I want updates, like every day. The store does not satisfy me when I visit it several times a day and its all the same all the time.

  • You can just use the web browser to view the trailer. I don't need to download the file, if I can just use the browser. I don't disagree that the Playstation Store needs a little work but it'll have to see a dramatic change when they start selling music and videos. The good thing about using a web interface is that it can be easily updated when they are ready to do so.

  • You know what that means? Microsoft is gonna buy Take-Two and GTA IV is gonna be a 360 exclusive! LOL, I couldn't help myself.

  • a nice warhawk demo woulda been nice

  • meanwhile in europe we havent gotten any of those things, flow was just released here though

  • Sony doesn't need to worry so much about the playstation store, they need to focus on getting ps3 games to market. All I have my ps3 doing is folding, and although that's beneficial to everyone else, I'd appreciate a little me time and be able to play a game or two on the bloody thing.

  • I'd love to see some real content actually in the PlayStation Store from new mini-games, new trailers, to just anything. They are far away from matching Live's service even though their GUI is much more robust and better layed out. Content is king.

  • I got the full 720p HD trailer on my PS3. I downloaded the original .wmv then I used PS3 Video 9, converted it to AVC 720p, then put it on my USB stick and put it on my PS3. Its that easy. stop whining. The original file was 66MB, after converting it was only 20MB.

  • I would like to have quicktime support on the browser. I wanna watch the 28 weeks later trailer on my hd tv.

Also they should have psone games for download for the ps3, plus we should be able to reverse remote play and send games from the psp to the ps3.

Also some new screensavers for ps3 and sweet themes and backgrounds.

  • I`ve had my PS3 since Nov. 17th and the current state of PSN is sad and to me seems tacked on. Everything from the Store to the messaging and Friends management. Nothing about it seems intergral or centered around online even home feels that way. I wish they would upgrade the XMB to not feel so tacked on and last if not middle priority. I take in to consideration XBL has been out longer, but atleast it is very much centered around online. Have you ever played one without a broadband connection? Its pretty damn sad.

  • PlaySyde.com has an MP4 720p version of the trailer.

Use your damn PS3 web browser and download it directly from the website. The end.

  • I'd say more of everything. No reason to take anything away.

  • I wonder if everyone that wants more features would be willing to pay for it like Live users. I'm a Live user and since I pay for the service I sorta expect to have these things.

  • What do you want for a free web service. I happily pay for xbox live because I know they can then actually afford to develop content for it. I mean yeah it can add up but it is better to have too much to choose from then to not have anything at all. I have all of the downloadable games on my ps3 and resistance. I am still waiting for something else to give me a reason to be happy with my purchase. We are nearing the end of the usual 6 month launch drought that occurs for most systems after launch and hopefully there will be 10 good titles for ps3 exclusively. That is my quota to make my purchase worth it to me.

  • I'd also like more demos - my understanding is that the Japanese PSN store has an AC4 demo and after the hell that was Gundam: Crossfire, I'm more inclined to try-before-I-buy nowadays. Blu-ray trailers instead of theatrical trailers would be cool too.

  • Everybody keeps talking about the difference in price as the definitive factor between XBL and PSN. the core features are the same. Its just the organization and implemettion that is different.

  • The difference between the two is already very slim and Sony hasn't even rolled out their offical on-line with Home yet. Home will actually have a lot of feature that XBL doesn't. The implementation may take a year to get sorted out, but that's to be expected.

I don't see how Marketplace is so much better. There are many weeks when there is nothing new on it, or they just put up something like Root Beer Tapper or some other mediocre game.

the Ps3 anti-hype on these blogs is just as bad as the stuff that goes int he other direction.

  • I would love them to assign a day for new content like Wii Mondays or Live Wednesdays second Demos for games that aren't out already it gets aggravating seeing stuff Xbox had a month or more prior. Maybe they can also add a few TV Shows or something. Lets go sony pick up the pace.

  • More Demos, more downloadable games. Trailers are cool and all, but I have INHD and they have a high-def trailer show every weekend (although the Transformers trailer was pretty sweet... nerdgasm).

I do like the regularity of the updates, though. If you're checking every day, yeah, you're wasting your time. It updates every thursday around the end of business, without fail.

  • @Boxelder:

new stuff hits daily. arcade games come out wensday

thers music videos, trailers and ofcourse movie and tv downlaods. many in hd. this past weekend me and the wife watched the wickerman and sublime(a very good movie) in 720p. the video market place has come a long way and downloads are pretty fast now.

  • I would like to see demos of games that are not out yet. Like how xbox-live gets them usually about a week or two ahead of their release. Hopefully they start doing this soon.

  • @Boxelder:

and the past 2 days alone we got the gta4 trailer and the dirt gameplay trailer. not the cg trailer but the true gameplay trailer.

not to mention much more if u wnat i could list it but you get the point

  • I'm happy with the PS Store right now.

  • I am under the impression that the current PS Store is more of a placeholder until they roll out Home and it's attached features.

I have a lot of things I would like to see PSN implement, but I am going to hold off in saying as much negative stuff as I want to until I see what they have in store with that.

  • Wow... is it really tit for tat? Why would anyone go from PC to console when you can do it [watch the GTA4 trailer] directly? Bunch of kids on this site.

  • I want to be able to play my downloaded movies one after another without having to press a button.

    Like a slideshow.

Also, more demos. PS2 demos if need be.

  • There needs to be much more content. I dont care what it is. What more can i say.

    @VoldtaEngler:

I agree, the movie trailers are becoming a bit much.

I'd like to see some quality downloadable games that you can't get on Marketplace, maybe some that get closer to and take advantage of the 400 MB limit now that the black beast has background downloading.

I just hope it doesn't become a carbon copy of XBLA. I don't need the same game twice.

  • MK2??? What happened to the march release? Thats what i want.

  • what about little free flash-esque ps3 arcade games.

    hockey pong, anyone?

  • You know what I liked on the 360 when it wasn't flashing three red lights at me, Texas Hold'em. I like these little casual card games. Sometimes I just don't wanna chainsaw someone's torso in half or save London. Sometimes I just want a little card playing relaxing cerebral action. Well... on the bright side I'm a little better at Sudoku now.

  • I want my PS store to look like that one in the picture...

  • WAY more Blu-ray trailers, less game demos...wait...screwed that up - reverse it.

A half-way decent interface (like one based on the XMB) would be nice, along with some speed...

  • @Boxelder: "Home will actually have a lot of feature that XBL doesn't. The implementation may take a year to get sorted out, but that's to be expected."

So your comparing what you perceive Home will be like in a year compared to what Live has right now? I don't think anyone can know what Home is going to be like and I don't think anyone can know what Live is going going to be like in that time.

People complain about XBL service and boast about Sony's service that is free so I wonder what more Sony will be willing to do for free since it seems that the quality of service from Live Gold accounts has to do with being charged a subscription fee.

  • Demos. And older games that are playable on the PS3 instead of on the PSP (since I spent so much on the PS3, I can't afford a PSP). Being able to play a demo of Warhawk or Lair would be delicious, and I'd really love to be able to play Silent Bomber without scrounging all over the interweb looking for it.

  • lol, Sony's free service actually had more content added than a single GTAIV trailer, and that's bad? No, not really!

  • More PS1 for PSP (because I'm too confused and afraid to use homebrew), demos for every damn game, zero movie trailers.

  • The GTA IV Trailer was what I expected...not what I was hoping for...I was expecting it to be a teaser: a minute of seeing the city...a shot of the probable hero...and then the date of its release. Now what I was hoping for...a minute of explosions, gunfire, bad language, and new things you can do...so considering its a teaser...its not even worth downloading onto my PS3 if it was a choice...i'd rather why my Shrek 3 and Transformers trailers 5times over XD

  • If anything I think we should get more game trailers and demos. Trailers will keep us wanting to see more of a game and go "oooh...ahhhh" Demo's will show why the heck we were going "oooh..ahhh" in the first place :) Also the add ons are pretty cool...assuming i've got the game that they are for...so far Genji outfits :) Now if they could do something with the camera...that'd be fantastic!

  • When Sony got rid of the Official Playstation Magazine in the US, they also got rid of all Playstation 2 game demos. There is now no way to get demos of new PS2 games. There are also extremely few PS3 game demos on the store. Plenty of new PS3 games are being released now but very few of them have demos. The reason is probably that Sony is charging game publishers too much to host demos on their store. Since there is no way to download demos from any other web site, this means that game demos are a thing of the past for Playstation owners.

  • I'd like some PS1 games and my store to look as nice as that one. UK one isn't so good.

  • is there a 1080 version of the trailer anywhere yet?
