Don't let the poster fool you. Or the soap-opera-sounding name. The "Passion" concerts about to hit Sydney, Melbourne and Singapore are all (well...mostly) about the games.
Tunes from Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, Vagrant Story, Final Fantasy XII, Xenosaga, Shadow of the Colossus and Super Mario Bros will feature, plus a few more tracks from some animes and Disney movies. Could do with some Zelda, but hey, them's the breaks.
What's more, "famous" composers Yasunori Mitsuda (Chrono series, Xenogears) and Hitoshi Sakimoto (Final Fantasy XII, Final Fantasy Tactics) will be making guest appearances, which would be fantastic news if I knew who the hell they were.
Tickets range from $25 for broke-ass students who want to sit up the back, to $65 for those who want to sit up the front and heckle the composers about why they're not playing any Metroid.

I actually had a fun time at Play when it came here.
My review http://www.dailygame.net/news/archives/006049.php
Better watch out, Australia might sue or ban anything game related that doesn't have happy bouncing smiley faces that depict that the world is rainbows, sunshine, and gumdrops.
All that violence in those Square games...with the swords, and guns, and death by magic. Even Super Mario Bros with its gooma-stomping homocides...
Needs more Marty O'Donnel.
10 million strong... and growing.
I also reviewed the Play concert when it game to Toronto. Check out http://freedom.constantchange.com (scroll down just a wee bit)
To save time for those who want an impression, it was amazing. Well worth the price of admission, and then some. Other than that guy from Sega singing "Daytona"...the guy is a hell of a piano player, but ye gods could he ever NOT sing. The only part of the concert that stuck way out. Tone deaf. It was painful.
But for the rest of the show, I hope that there are more of these shows coming this way. It's another way in which gaming will shrug off its "kiddie" image, finally emerging as an artform.
Though I never saw Play, Video Games Live was great when it came to Vancouver. I'll have to keep an eye on this.

Curse you, Kotaku commenting system.
Yasunori Mitsuda > any game composer ever.
I know who those two are...they're probably my two favorite VG composers. The Vagrant Story and FFT soundtracks, both by Sakimoto, are underrated and fantastic, as is just about everything that Mitsuda has ever done. the presence of the Shadow of the Colossus music is nice too, I imported the soundtrack and it's great to study to. I'm SO jealous of Melbourne right now.
Yes, Sakimoto's music is amazing, FFT in particular. I wish I could see this...
I'm not jealous, having to brave the Melbourne night, only two days after the Wii launch, no thank you, darkened room for me.
Thankfully i'm a sydney-sider so i can go later.
"which would be fantastic news if I knew who the hell they were"
You obviously don't keep much track of composers then do you ;-) Try wikipedia, lol. Please tell me you know who Nobuo Uematsu is!
I only wish PLAY! would come down to aussie and newzealand, I can't get enough final fantasy music.
Anyway, great for aussie and singapore! It's good to see these concerts sprending around the world :-)
You don't know Yasunori Mitsuda? Composed Chrono Trigger (greatest OST EVAR), Chrono Cross, Xenogears, and Xenosaga.
Would pay the $65 just to hear a single, random song from SotC played by an orchestra. No kidding.
And yes, spacevlad... Vagrant Story was underrated on every level when it came out. Everyone was too buy playing *sigh* Parasite Eve 2.
You people make me sick.
Ahehe Hello Kotaku-Nites,
I have been to these before, they are very well done and very much worth the entry cost.

lol, Metroid = the game music world's Freebird?
I'll start chanting "Metroid! Metroid!" if I go to one of these things. Anyone else?
I first heard of these guys years back when I heard a young guy playing Aerith's Theme on his violin. First time I bought a CD from a street busker too.
Can't wait to them perform.
