Like the Model T Ford, The PS3 Comes Only In Black

A last year's E3, Sony rolled out the PLAYSTATION 3 in three colors: Black, white and silver. Two of those console colors have since vanished, and we've been flowed with pics of the black PS3. But, what about the others? I want silver!

Tough tits, Ashcraft. Sony Europe has apparently announced that only the black PLAYSTATION 3 will launch in Europe. Moreover, Sony's North American PlayStation site only lists a black PS3. It would've been way cooler if Sony first showed us the black machine and then a while down the road, unveiled these "new" colors. Then we'd have something to get excited, and not annoyed, about. Of course, at certain times the model T was available at in a variety of colours that weren't black.

Anyway, with the PS3... to be honest, I never expected all three colours to be available on launch day. Did anyone really think that?

One thing's for sure - that black & silver two-tone look for the premium version of the console is rather fugly.

I seem to remember Sony did the same thing with the PSP. There were lots of early publicity shots of models carrying around PSPs of various colours, but so far all we've had is black and white.

Then again, Nintendo showed off a fair few different colours for the Wii, but it looks like Black is going to be the launch colour.

Not to worry, Bash. Apparently the premium model will have a silver stripe. Only the el cheapo PS3--and I say that with sad irony--will be solid black.

You can see lots more of the PS3 here in G4TV video footage from Leipzig. Watch the bulging muscles and the little white gloves, hear the dramatic music and see the dramatic lighting as the premium model is lifted from its case and turned at all angles for everyone to see. Sadly, unlike the promise of the opening, there is no sauerkraut or lederhosen.

Come on, silver plastic looks cheap (look at the DS fatty). The white one was ok, though. The Wii will launch in white and black I believe...

Unfortunately I think the same will happen with the Wii, only one or two colors, not the five.... As far as the Model T, they're referring to the quote from Henry: "it's available in your favorite color, so long as your favorite color is black." I'm roughly paraphrasing, but that was the gist. Model T's not black are aftermarket paint jobs...

There are other, more accurate comparisons to be made between the Model-T and the PLAYSTATION 3. Most notably, they will be approximately the same size and price on the day of their release.

Hey doesn't this follow Sony's pattern since day one of their PS3 announcement? Back then they, boasted all of these BS claims then pulled back once the reality of their situation came in. They also showed us three colors, but now their offering one.

I would be be willing to bet that although Nintendo's initial launch colors will be black (and probably white), the other colors shown will be released later. kind of like they did with the orange GC a few months after launch.
