Microsoft Responds To PS3 Plans With Apathy, Then Befuddlement, Then Contempt

shanekim.jpgSitting pretty on a year lead in the next-gen console wars, Microsoft has responded to Sony's Playstation 3 press conference with a belch and an apathetic yawn. Over at TeamXBox.com, there's some intimidatingly confident words from Microsoft Game Studio head Shane Kim on what he saw at the PS3 press conference.

There was nothing from Sony's briefing that would make us change anything regarding our plans. We are very confident in our approach, especially now. We have a much better online story and much better content. Finally, we feel that our superior price point provides us an advantage

On the Playstation 3's retarded Wii-wanna be controller:

We actually had a very similar product on the market for the PC - the (Sidewinder) Freestyle Pro. It was a great controller for a very specific set of games, but wasn't accepted as an overall controller. We considered the technology when developing the Xbox 360, but felt it wasn't the way to go.

On Sony's online focus, Kim expressed bafflement:

They talked a lot about building an online community, which is something we've already established very well on Xbox Live. Surprisingly, they didn't mention anything about their online gameplay structure.

And on the PS3's price point, Kim remarked brutally:

It's pretty tough to tell gamers that the next generation begins with [Sony] when [their] price point is a couple hundred dollars higher than ours.

Hardly the cowboy boots overflowing with fear-induced urine that Sony anticipated, apparently.
