That's 3D Metal Gear yer looking at. As soon as director Shinta Nojiri saw the PSP he knew he had to trick it out with 3D. In the latest installment to the Metal Gear Acid series, Nojiri has done just that. The newest Acid can go 3D thanks to a "TOBIDACID" scope (a word play on the Japanese for "jumps out") and special clips, which are attached to rare cards as "Easter eggs."
"I always have to do the weird projects," the outspoken director tells me. The series producer, Okamura sits next to him and does not utter a single word during the interview.
"Kojima-san used to be a concept designer," Nojiri says. "He's keen on concepts. So, if I can surprise him, then I know I'm onto something."
The 3D is totally surprising. I had heard rumors early in the day that Konami would reveal this. Nojiri-san hands me his white PSP with the scope and tells me to "take a look." When I do, I'm taken aback. Nojiri is onto something. That third dimension complements the portables sound and graphics nicely.
Besides the 3D, the new Acid sports more than twice the number of cards, on screen buttons to guide play and Pop Art graphics.
"What would you like to see in 3D?" Nojiri asks me.
Yup. Boobs. Guy's put 3D boobs in the handheld. They'll be covered with swimsuits, but it's just a matter of time before there are skins.
