Sega's Dinosaur King Screenshots

Here are some shots of Dinosaur King for the Nintendo DS from the Sega event attended by our ever busy Dr. Crecente. Dinosaur King is a game based off of an anime based off of a card game, if I've got the progression correct, which pretty much means that fans of the show and players of the card game will enjoy it. Being neither, I simply present you with the screens while smiling a warm, reassuring smile.

Metallic Rose DS Gets Superstar Launch

As is always the case, mere weeks after I pick up a new DS, Nintendo goes and releases a new color. The metallic rose DS, originally sold as part of a holiday Nintendogs bundle, will be hitting stores later this month in stand-alone form, and Nintendo has recruited Ugly Betty star America Ferrera and American Idol-born country singer Carrie Underwood to appear in ads promoting the new shade. The commercials will begin airing on Monday, May 19th. Along with those two, Liv Tyler will also be appearing in commercials hawking the crimson and black variant.

Strong female role-models America and Carrie will surely inspire many young women to pick up one of Nintendo's handhelds, while the Liv Tyler ad will have men who are subconsciously attracted to Steven Tyler to the stores in droves.

Konami Announces "Rock Revolution"

Seems like everyone is jumping on the music rhythm game bandwagon these days and seeing as Konami was somewhat instrumental in starting the whole genre it makes sense that the would come out with their own answer to Guitar Hero and Rock Band. That answer is Rock Revolution. Rock Revolution is mainly centered around the drumming although there will be guitar and bass available as well. There were no guitars in evidence but they were keen to show off their drum kit which features a total of six drum pads and a pedal. They also made sure to show us how quiet the pads themselves were so we could avoid the problem of "annoying family and neighbors with the constant tapping. I'm sure I have NO idea what they were referring to with that...

Disney's DGamer Service Launches

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian for the Nintendo DS has been released, heralding the launch of Disney's DGamer community service, first announced back in February. Henceforth most every Disney game for the Nintendo DS will integrate the service, which allows players to create their own online identity and participate in a community the likes of which Nintendo has never allowed.

"DGamer was built around the vision to connect Disney video game fans in a secure, fun environment and it is truly the first integrated online community of its kind to do so on multiple platforms," said Graham Hopper, executive vice president and general manager for Disney Interactive Studios. "We recognize the importance of delivering unique experiences to our consumers and how crucial it is for parents to feel confident that the community is secure for their kids."
The service is completely integrated with Disney's already established online community at www.DGamer.com.

Nintendo Says There Is No Casual Gaming

Casual gaming? Whatever! This is no casual gaming, buster. Just ask Nintendo! It'll set you straight. Nintendo Europe's senior marketing director Laurent Fischer unloads:

For me, you are a gamer or non-gamer... I think most of you know that you can spend ten or twenty hours on an internet flash game and have not realized. The guy who plays these games regularly — he's a core gamer... Someone who is fifty-years old who only plays Brain Training, but plays it like a core gamer is a core gamer... I don't like this word casual so much. Because people consider that casual needs to be something easy. If you're good at any game you can play at a high difficulty level... Take Tetris. There is incredible gameplay, it's very simple, very easy to understand, but it's also very different. I think a game can be a light enough to enjoy and for all gamers to become a core gamer on it... There is no casual gaming. There is just a different way to play.

Fischer doesn't like the word casual so much? Talk about an understatement.

Curvy Japanese Bikini Lady Shows Us Bape Nintendo DS

If you've spent time on the Japanese nerd internet, you've seen images like this: Pin-up model posing with game hardware. Very common! This, this one's got a little more. That's curvy swimsuit model Yuuri Morishita holding the pricey and hard-to-get Baby Milo/Bape limited edition Nintendo DS. While we noticed that this DS was somewhat popular, we haven't actually seen a non promo image of the Bape DS! So here it is. With this lady. And look at that, the limited edition DS looks like a regular DS with stickers on it. A shot of the DS on what looks like Morishita's mattress or something.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed Multiplayer Makes LucasArts PR Snappy

There are some touchy questions. Questions that might turn people curt. Questions that need to be asked. Questions like: Is there any specific reason why there is no multiplayer in Star Wars: The Force Unleashed for the PS3 and Xbox 360? Adam Kahn, Senior PR Manager at LucasArts, answers.

To be specific, there's no multiplayer in the Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION 3 versions, because there is on the Wii, PSP, and DS. As far as specific reasons are concerned, we don't really like to get into the reasons why we don't do things because I don't think there's really a satisfactory answer that people would really be happy with. So, there isn't multiplayer and that's kind of how it is...

That's not really PR spin. It's... we dunno what the fuck it is. Just watch out for Adam Kahn. He'll cut you.

Microsoft So Happy It Didn't Make a Handheld Console

Once upon a time, people thought Microsoft was going to enter the handheld console market. It hasn't! Maybe, it will one day, but for the time being, the company is sitting on the sidelines. Any regrets? Says Microsoft's Shane Kim:

I'm very happy we didn't get into it, because launching a handheld platform is like launching another Xbox 360. You have to be fully committed, as an organisation, from a resource standpoint, to doing that. Frankly we've got a lot on our plate with Xbox 360 and Xbox Live. We don't have any experience in that space. Our content assets don't naturally lend themselves to driving success in that particular market.

How To Skate It On Wii And DS

Skate It is the newly announced version of EA's Skate for the Nintendo Wii and DS, and while Crecente did an excellent job of explaining the controls yesterday in his hands-on report, EA saw fit to release videos showing how things are done in the world of Skate It. Interestingly enough the two videos feature no actual gameplay, rather showcasing a real-life skater performing the moves with the controls displayed in a tiny box in the lower right corner. In fact, both the Wii and DS versions of the vid feature the same song and the same video, with only the control boxes replaced. Way to go the extra mile there. Hit the jump for the DS version of the clip. More »

MySims Fans Given Keys To The Kingdom

Cute can only get you so far, as evidence by EA's first MySims for the Nintendo Wii and DS. It's adorable characters lured in many players (myself included) who were then disappointed by the lack of compelling gameplay. Perhaps EA can redeem themselves with MySims Kingdom, coming out for both Nintendo platforms this fall. The Wii game challenges you to help a colorful cast of characters restore King Roland's kingdom to its former glory, while the DS version acts as an extension of the storyline, helping the King thwart some far-flung evil. Adding a true storyline to the game should help bunches in making this next entry in the MySims franchise playable. Fingers crossed.

Skate It Wii Hands-On Impressions

Standing on the tiny white stage set up in front of the back bar of Supperclub last night, a drink sloshing nearly out of its glass in one hand, Skate It executive producer Scott Blackwood promised not to use the phrase "built from the ground up" while explaining his game.

Boo me off the stage, he insisted, if I do... and then he proceeded to use the phrase.

"If it's not built from the ground up, is it a port? Not really."

Blackwood explained that before Black Box started their work on the Wii and DS versions of Skate, they had to figure out if the controls would work.

"It we couldn't get that great flick it feel, we weren't going to do it," he said.

Later on, while trying out the Wii version of the game for myself, I was told the team spent three to four months working on getting those controls right and for the most part, it felt like they succeeded.

This Doki Doki Majo Shinpan Duo Cover Is Not Correct

Something is missing. If those blue bars on the Doki Doki Majo Shinpan Duo are x-ray and make it possible to see through clothes, then yes, something is indeed missing. Somethings, rather. Also, note that the Doki Doki sequel is rated "CERO D" (17 and up) while the earlier game was rated only "CERO C" (15 and up). Infer what you like! Game's out July 31st.

A Bus Wrapped In DS Cat Sim Cuteness

There it is, have a look, the cutest bus in Tokyo. To promote DS game Kawaii Koneko ("Cute Kitten"), the above bus was wrapped in cavity inducing sacchrine. The pet sim went on sale way back in January and lets players pick from eight different breeds like Russian Blue and American Shorthair. The bus ad features cutesy Japanese celebrity person Becky. See that old dude flagging down that pink bus? His teeth hurt.

7 Reasons Why There Will Be A Redesigned DS

When Nintendo's not making games, it's redesigning hardware. When it's not redesigning hardware, it's denying hardware revisions. Previously, Famitsu boss Hirokazu Hamamura said a new DS was coming to E3, a rumor which Nintendo and Hanamura later denied. Now game site GamesRadar contacted Nintendo about the rumor. Nintendo's reply?

No announcement has been made by Nintendo and everything reported online is pure speculation and rumour. Our hardware development team always work on the next product after we launch one hardware. It is usual that a new model will be brought to the market when we can not offer new ideas with the current model, but we think Nintendo DS is not at that stage yet, and we'd like to keep offering all sorts of suggestions to enrich the lives of people who own a Nintendo DS.

Hit the jump for GameRadar's seven reasons why we'll see a new DS sooner than later. More »

English Of The Dead Flash Demo

Oh Sega. What, you don't know that the mere premise of teaching people English by having them type zombies to death guarantees sales? It does. So while the flash demo you've provided of one of the game's cheesy tutorial levels (the real typing of the dead comes later) is greatly appreciated, it's not really needed. Thanks anyway, though!

Sierra Reveals The Mummy: Tomb Of The Dragon Emperor

In 1999, moviegoers were thrilled by Brendan Fraser in The Mummy. In 2001 they were titillated by The Mummy Returns. A year later they kinda scratched their heads at The Scorpion King, but this year the filmmakers are off The Rock and things are back to normal with The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, and Sierra is busy developing the blockbuster game to go along with the blockbuster film. Developed by Eurocom Studios for the Wii, PS2, and Nintendo DS, the game will place payers in the roles of Rick O'Connell and his son Alex in their quest to defeat the servants of the Dragon Emperor, portrayed by Jet Li. The third-person action will consist of hand-to-hand combat, gun play, and platforming, and looks from the screenshots to be very much like Tomb Raider without the breasts, which is exactly what The Mummy franchise is all about! Look for the game on or around the movie release this August.
