C&C Installer No More

Well colour me devastated. One of the coolest little features of C&C games was always the show you got when installing the game, which was usually in the form of a virtual installation: the game install was mocked up to look like you were installing the battlefield control system you play the game through.

Maybe you kids these days don't really care, but it was an original gimmick that really added to the sense of polish you got from the games. Now, with C&C 3 on the horizon, it sadly is no more, Executive Producer Mike Verdu telling CVG:

There will be something when you install the game and it will be something cool, but the classic C&C installers that we've come to know and love I think were somewhat of an artefact of the DOS days - and I did love them, but you'll see that effort put into actually making the game itself feel more immersive, because we want to create a world that you can really lose yourself in.

An artefact? That's cold, man. You read it here first: if C&C 3 tanks, it all started with this.
