Good news! Sorta. The Xbox 360's HD-DVD player will be cheap-ish. Microsoft's Kevin Collins showed off the hardware at the DVD Forum in Los Angeles. Even though he stated it would be one of the least pricey HD-DVD players on sale, Collins refused to give an exact price. The nerve. He did say:
All the audio and video processing is done inside the Xbox... This gives consumers choice and keeps their cost down.
I just realized that by Christmas this year, I will have four video formats laying around my apartment: DVD, HD-DVD, Blu-ray and VHS (my kid's). Profitible? Perhaps for corporations. A strain on consumers? Definitely.
